Question:

Need Retainer to be cleaner!

I got my retainers about a month ago. The told me to clean it I could use denture cleaners like polident or with water and maybe a little dish soap. But when I do this it doesn't help clean my retainers. Most of the time I just use a toothbrush and some water to clean them, but i usually end up using my fingernail to scrape off some of the dried on stuff. So, I was wondering if there are any other ways I can clean them to make them better. I also wear them all of the time.

  1. Just let them sit in a cup of mouthwash for a little bit, and brush it with your toothbrush and rinse with water. That's what I do for mine.

  2. You can try to soak it in mouthwash for a couple of hours to give it a more refreshing clean, and it will also help the dried stuff scrape off much easier with a toothbrush. I've done it for myself, and it works. Its always best to clean it everyday, brushing it briefly with the toothbrush for about 30 seconds is fine and will help keep it cleaner.

  3. Call your orthodontist and ask if you can boil it without it melting. usualy when you boil things it kills all germs and whatever crusted things stay will wash away into the water.
