Question:

Need Some New Irons?

I've been playing with some very low-end MacGregor Irons for about ten years now. I shoot in the low 80s and occasional 70s and need more feedback on mishits, and something that will help me improve without sacrificing too much forgiveness. I'm thinking about either the MacGregor PCBs or TaylorMade 320s. Any other suggestions?

  1. No.

  2. I would suggest the Ping S58's.  I went from a set of Titleist cavity backs to an older set of Maxfli pure blades and ran into the opposite problem.  I was getting too much feedback and not enough forgiveness.  I was about a 2 handicap before switching to Ping S59's and within a year I was below scratch.  I've never played with the S58's, but I have hit them several times and they are an improvement.  Either set will provide the median between pure blades and a cavity back.

  3. I find Nike CCi forged irons to be really acurrate and forgiving.

  4. The TM 300 series are still a solid iron, very well engineered.

You might also consider the MacGregor M685 forged, or the Titleist 704's or 804's. Good luck.

  5. Their are a lot of options out their in new technology.  You could even buy clubs that were made with in the last 4 years and you should be fine.  I suggest the King Cobra 3100 series, Taylor Made RAC series.  Or you could go with a larger styled muscle back iron which is what I play.  The Ben Hogan Apex Plus.  An excellent club that gives you a lot of feed back, the upside is it has a nice sized sweet spot for the size of the iron.  The downside is the long irons will be hard for you to hit unless you slow your swing down.

  6. ive got some Bridgestone J33 combos that i like but i dont really want them anymore...if you would like to purchase them then email me

  7. I'd say to try a Dunlop Maxfli, it works best for me.

Also, try the Callaway X-18 or Callaway Big Bertha.

  8. The general area you want to be in is in the "Forged Irons" area. If you are a low-double to single digit handicap you should want to play forged. You can get forged irons in cavity back that are more forgiving but the softer metal of the forged heads will give you a soft but accute feedback. This feedback will help you hone those mis-hits back to center. The sound and feel of off-center hits of cavity-back forged irons is completely distiguishable from solid ones. This makes them the perfect step between hybrids and large cavity back and blade-style irons. Here are a couple sets I would recommend.---------->

they are all used so it keeps the price down but these are three fine sets of clubs that will really improve your ball-striking and eventually get you working the ball a little more as you experiment with spins and shot pattern control.  Good Luck!
