Need Suggection: Canon PowerShot S5 IS vs Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H50?

I have zeroed in on 2 cameras.. before jumping on to buy a DSLR.

1) Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H50

2) Canon PowerShot S5 IS

Need suggestion from users and experts as to which one would be a worth purchase.

I will be using the camera, in all possible scenarios, Outdoor, on Mountains, glaciers, indoor, lowlight conditions, some night shooting as well...

I have read the pros and cons and specifications of the cameras online. I have also seen both the cameras at a local store, however, would need suggestions on the image quality/precision, maintenance, ease of use, battery life, accessory price and value for money.

It seems S5 IS does not have a night vision mode though.

Thanks in advance

Andy

  1. I own the h50 and LOVE it, the reviews for the camera are high and very accurate. I love the "night vision", it is an awesome extra feature. The quality of the photos are great, the eases of use of the camera is terrific. I cant say enough good things about the h50. I have always owned a cyber shot and would never dream of buying any other camera. I would definitely recommend the h50. Here are a few of my photos taken with the h50...the older pics on my page were taken with my cyber shot h5.

  2. I agree.

    I've used Canon Digital Camera's since 2003.

Still have a PowerShot A40, and Just baught a PowerShot SX100 IS. Canon is the Best Hands Down!!

Just the User-Friendly Buttons Canon has been using make the Camera a Joy to use. That's something NO other camera can compete with!!

I had a Sony for a couple of Weeks, and got Rid of it, because of how Disappionted I was with it!

I guess I have been 'Spoiled', in being Used to the Canon's Image Quality. But realy: Image Quality is Everything in a Camera. You can't Negotiate it for Needless Features!!

Let me tell you though, you will Want a Bigger Zoom. That's Probably why you want a DSLR Camera.

But realy, you just need a 10x Zoom Lens!! And Canon DOES build a Point-&-Shoot Camera with a 10x Zoom. It's the Same Camera I just Mentioned:

    The PowerShot SX100 IS.

I realy recommend it!! And it has a Built-in Dust Cap, unlike the Sony H3. Go Check it Out!!

  3. No contest, Canon. However Sony makes excellent televisions.

  4. I have a Canon S3is and swear by it.

Don't think you could go wrong with the S5.

I have a few shots from my S3 on my flickr page here if you'd like to see them:

BTW, some of these shots are from different cameras, so see notes for S3is shots.

  5. Get the canon. it has IS which will really come in handy for low light.  Sony's quality and value has really dropped in recent years and canon has proven to be better in image quality and user interference.
