Need Tattoo ideas for my father who passed away...?

My father passed away in Feb of 2007. Ever since then i have wanted to get a remembrance tattoo. I have yet to do it since i joined the Navy and i was not able to get a tattoo until now. Now i think i am ready to get this done.

My dad was an electrician, a salesman, and most importantly a father of three. He died of a particular kind of cancer.

I was initially thinking of getting a phoenix to symbolize my dad passing and myself rising from his ashes. But i cant find a good picture that i like, or more importantly that i want on me. Any ideas will be accepted. Even those that you yourself have gotten.

P.S. i already know to think long and hard since its going to be there forever.....yada yada. so please don't mention that. :)

Thanks to all.

  1. im a heavily tattooed female that has several tattoos for family members that have passed. my mom was a heavy martini drinker, so i have a martini glass w/ her name and birth and death dates. my grandmother collected bells. i have a beautiful bell w/ her name and birth and death dates. my grandfather was a farmer, and i got an ear of corn w/ his name and birth and death dates. go w/ what they enjoyed most, and what you remember them most by. i, myself am into eyes, so each and every one of my tattoos have eyes somewhere in them, to connect me and my loved ones that have passed.

    go to

    www.myspace.com/5000eyes

and look at my tatts. just go w/ what is in ur heart, and add a bit of ur self to it.

    good luck.

  2. The Pheonix is an AWESOME idea! If you can't find a picture you like, then keep looking. A good artist should be able to create what you want, or maybe look into the Hopi or Navajo or Arapaho tribal-style Pheonix. They have some outrageous art!

I googled "tribal phoenix" images and it showed some cool pieces. Good luck!!!

  3. I am sorry for your loss.

The phoenix symbol is dynamic and varied.

Here is an Egyptian phoenix design, with ribbon areas that you could put text or script if you wanted. This would translate into a fine tattoo:

here is a traditional Chinese phoenix:

This image would translate in black and gray or in color:

This idea might be cool to use for a phoenix rising from the ashes:

This is an interesting design, it could be done in a couple of different ways, (reverse image, shading, red around black and gray phoenix)

This is a simple yet dynamic black stylized phoenix:

And this one is a complected and complete image with much symbolism, it could be a very dynamic and beautiful tattoo:

Good luck with your choice. Placement and size will make a difference, as what 'feels' right to you. Trust your instincts, go with what you are attracted to, even if you do not understand why.

This is a good thing for you to do.

  4. I'm not sure, try to google a picture, maybe ever Flickr it.

The phoenix thing is the like coolest idea i've ever heard. BTW.
