  1. you don't need to worry a great deal about your scent causing the mother to reject them, usually what i do for baby rodents is just try to scoop the bedding around them, mother rodents rarely kill a baby if its scent is altered, the misconception probably comes from the fact that a mother mouse, rat, hamster, ect. will start killing off babies if its either sick or if she has too many to feed them all sufficiently, so rather than under nourish all her children she will eliminate a few so the others can have a healthy start.

so just go easy, scoop as much dirty stuff out as you can, and expect the mother to be quite angry while youre doing so. :)

  2. I usually just put a pile of clean bedding and paper towel or toliet paper shreds at the opposite end of the cage. Just don't touch or move around anything too much, don't want to stress mom and risk the babies being eaten. The moms will take it back to the nest and push out the old bedding, or they'll make a new nest and relocate the babies once theirs is too dirty. Mom's know best. ^_^

  3. i think you can clean it but u should be careful...put momma and little ones in a cardboard box,or something dark to limit stress.when you do scoop a large area around them,so you are taking the main nest with them...be really careful..get underneath enough as to not disturb the babies...

then clean the cage,,,soap and hot water...

put fresh bedding in and then make an indentation for the old nest..same corner.. scoop nest w babies place back in cage, being so careful...then put momma in..make sure you get a good size nest of the bedding around the babies...and put it back in the newly cleaned cage...don't forget to wash your hands..be real careful and it should go fine

  4. i assume you have mother mouse? leave it mother mouse will kill and or just ignore any baby that gets your scent on it. but if you can clean part of cage with out touching babies then go for it..
