I will be running a my first 50km trail run and I need somebody to recommend top of the line trail shoes. I've been running with top of the line running shoes, but what i really need is trail shoes traction and support, I have already fallen a twisted my ankle which I don't want to do again.

  1. Shoes are a matter of taste and preference, and ultimately something that will be good for your feet. A top of the line brand will not necessarily be good for your feet and the way you run. To a certain extent, there is trial and error.

I have high arches and am a slight overpronator. I have used the Salomon XA Pro and the Mizuno Wave Ascents with great comfort. I joined a 100K ultra with the Mizuno Wave Ascent with no problem. If it fits you well, go for it!

  2. I'm a serious trail runner and find that Salomon makes really good trail shoes.  I personally own 2 pair of the XA Comp 2, now they may the newer version Comp 3, both are light and yet provide support for rugged trails.  Also a Inov 8 makes really good (light weight, low to the ground) trail shoes, never tried them but each model is what it weights in grams.  Here are the links, good luck   http://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/beijing...
