Need a Bike?

hey im 16 And i need a bike to get around my town...Jackson, NJ. I need it to get around which so id be using it alot.my job is 8 miles away so i need it to get there and back.im also 6 2 so i dont want to be bumping my nees against the handle bars. ive been looking but i dont realy know what to look for. my price range is between 0-300 dollars.Im looking for a bmx style bike to.im not looking for any big bikes or anything bigger then a bmx bike. any ideas or help would be great thanks btw you can im me on aim if you have aim [e-mail] or just answer it here thanx

You probably want to check out hybrids. To put it simply, they're like a mountain bike with smooth tires. You should be able to find a decent one for under $300 no problem. Don't bother with a suspension, unless you're going off-road with the bike it'll just cost more and weigh more, both of which are bad. Go check out your local bike shop and have them help you get sized for a bike. They'll be more than willing to do this for you at no cost. They'll also give a quick education on the differences between all the different styles of bikes available.

Lets see, you want to commute 8 miles 1 way, ride everywhere you need to and not bump your knee on a BMX and your 6-2???

Is this a joke? The LAST thing you should buy is a BMX, but I guess at 16 you know it all.

Since you will probably still grow for the next three years the BMX 20" wheels will soon "shrink" .  There are so many bikes out there that are more suited for what you need.  With the BMX you will not find a seat post long enough to raise the saddle that high where it should be for someone with a 36" inseam. Also the BMX will have short cranks as it was designed for short sprints, not long road jaunts.  If you do chose the BMX, you will be passed by 15 year olds on regular road bikes all day long.
