Need a Device That Boosts Wireless Signal?

i just moved to a crappy *** apartment and it would be SO much better if i didnt have to go outside and walk around to obtain a wireless signal. there is a fast food restaurant nearby that i can get a very weak signal from if i can sit on top of my dryer (not fun) so is there ANY wireless signal booster (USB) and under about $30??? and available in regular stores (walmart bestbuy ect)? answer that works will MOST DEFF get my best answer points

  1. You could try to make a modified high gain antenna out of a Pringles can:  http://www.oreillynet.com/cs/weblog/view...

    But, you will most likely just damage your USB wireless card when you try to attach the antenna.

    You could look into getting a repeater, but I don't think you can get one cheaply and it would degrade your through-put by half.

  4. go to the store and tell them you want a Linksys Wireless-G USB Network Adapter that does exactly what you want. It is pretty much another wireless card but has a range booster antenna in it... they can be a bit more pricey but that's what you need.

  5. The short answer is no.  You're going to need something that can take an external antenna, and you'll probably also want a signal amplifier.  Hawking used to sell one at retail, not sure if its still available.
