If you have access to IP Cameras you could write a basic video surveillance system. =) I'm in the process of writing one myself. =)

Make a program that will let you use a simple "hot key" , in 1 step only, and that runs in the taskbar area (must use very very little systems resources) to change your desktop wallpaper. Good luck. Let me know how it comes out.
