  1. Buy a battery charger that has a "float" mode.  It will charge at about 1 to 2amps and when the battery is charged, it will quit charging.  When the battery starts to lose some of it's charge, the charger will automatically start again.  This will prevent the battery from being overcharged, causing the electrolyte to boil out or evaporate causing damage.

  2. Fix that piece! You got something draining the battery. Newly installed aftermarket stereo, dome light, etc.

  3. Install a battery disconnect switch like in the link below.

  4. You can get a trickle charger or battery tender if you don't want to disconnect the battery. They are available at local motorcycle shops or auto stores. If the battery is going to sit for a long time it will drain even with the cables disconnected.

  5. Look around, there used to be available a battery switch that connects at the positive battery post and disconnects the cable when required. I just haven't seen one in a while. It's called a battery isolation switch.

Don't forget, though, with modern vehicles the radio, and often the electronic engine controls, rely on continuous battery supply to maintain the "memories".

  6. if you let it sit for a extended amount of time the easiest thing to do is to disconnect one of the battery terminals
