Need a first name starts with H

Question

Hi, I am a Chinese student who will come to the US to pursue my master's degree recently. My family name is Pei and I want to add an English name starts with H (coz my Chinese first name is Hang, and I don't what to change it too much).

After several hours' searching, I think Hudson seems pretty good. My only concern is that it sounds like Hudson Bay. I think it is funny and easy to remember, but I really need your opinions on this.

you didn't say if it was a girl or boy. I doubt anyone in US would notice as the Hudson Bay is in Canada, so go with your first instinct.

other choices i though of were......

Harlowe, Harriette, Helene/Helena are nice for a girl.

Harris, Harold, Huston or Holden are all nice choices for boy.

I like Hudson and you should go for it!

I would think that the association with Hudson's Bay would be stronger in Canada than the states (given thats where both the body of water and store are) and even though I shop at the Bay all the time (living in Canada), I don't associate the name at all.

Alternatives....

- Harrison (shorten to Harry if you like)

- Hank (Not commonly used now but is defintely close to your name)

- Hunter

- Heath

Honestly, H is a hard letter....  all of the names tend to be either old fashioned or super trendy and might not go with your last name.

You don't need to change your name - lots of people in America have names traditional to their background. If you do choose to take an american name, Hudson is cool!

It does sound like Hudson Bay, but most people wouldn't think of that. I like Hudson.

Seriously, don't change your name. It reflects who you are, and your culture, and there's nothing wrong with it, except that sometimes Americans are xenophobic and will reject or mock what doesn't sound "normal" to us. If you want, you can take a nickname later.

I'm sorry, you dont say anywhere if you are a guy or a girl.

Hayden is a good name for a guy or girl though. It's one of my favorites. Harrison is a pretty good guy's name, not good if you want a cool unique name though. Halley is a fun girl's name too, not used too much.
