One of my friends is about to have her third child. Her 4 year old is beyond excited. She has been asking/begging for a younger sibling since she was 2 years old.

I tend to give kids books to celebrate special occasions, but I am stuck on this one. All of the big sister books i know of focus on the jelousy issues, the big change in the family type of thing. I dont think this will resonate with this particular girl.

Any ideas of books about becomming a big sister that are more positive?

  1. there is a little golden book called Baby Dear and its about a little girl that has a baby doll and when mummy brings home her new baby the little girl does everything the same with her doll.  She also gets to hold her sister and says that when her baby sister is a big girl she can hold her doll!!!

It was my favourite book and my kids loved it for every new baby...

  2. I really had the same feeling about most of the sibling books out there, until I came across this one:

"Best-Ever Big Sister" by Karen Katz ISBN: 0-448-43915-8

It starts with:"I'm a big sister. My baby sister needs somebody to dress her, but I can (lift the flap) "get dressed all by myself". So it continues until "there's a lot my baby sister can't do, but she will someday...(lift the flap) when she's big like me. Have a look at it.

My 2 year old loved it! The only thing is that the book may be aimed more at a toddler  than a pre-schooler - it includes "riding a trike and using the potty". If there is someone who knows about a similar type of book aimed at a pre-schooler, that will be the perfect choice.
