Question:

Need a good gift idea for my girlfriends Greek parents?

I am going to Europe for a while, I'll be in Greece meeting my girlfriend's parents for the first time (kind of nervous of this). Her parents are letting me stay there, which i appreciate a lot. She told me I don't need to worry about getting them anything, and to just GET THERE..haha

But yeah, i still want to get her parents something for being nice and letting me stay there. What's something that Greek people would like, nothing big or fancy, but something that would be a good gift.

Thanks in advance.

  1. Something symbolic for the house would be a nice idea i guess..Hmmmm...I hope they won't force u to marry her ahahaha i m greek and i never approach greek women coz they re too family-orientated +conservative, but i hope urs is the exception heh

  2. Just ask your girlfriend to come with you to get a cake and flowers once you arrive in Greece - that will be more appreciated than a gift from your country.

  3. You do need to get them something. You could bring something for the house, perhaps something traditional from where you come from. You could get them a good book with pictures from your country. Or you could get the mother something personal, like a scarf or a necklace, and the father a tie.

Also, keep in mind that they are going to be buying you dinner a lot there, because that is what Greeks do. It may be polite to ask them out once and pay, but only if you have both agreed that you are buying dinner beforehand. Maybe not dinner, maybe dessert.

  4. Agree with asimenia and you can find the most delicious confectionary goods in Greek zaxaroplasteia plus its such the Greek thing to do when going for a visit bringing glika, you can't go wrong with that. LOL!! As for a gift I suggest maybe a Coffee Table Book from your home town or even "The Journey"  its a table book with beautiful photos from the Archive Preservation Project about the Greek American Dream and if I remember correctly it also comes in a Greek language edition, its by Proteus and the Benaki Museum.  ;-)

  5. Bring them a pretty vase or something sweet to eat like fudge or something.
