Need a place to volunteer at in Long island!?

Im 13 years old wanting to volunteer during the summer. I need help in finding a place that will accept me being 13 in long island. Any suggestions?

Going into 9th grade. Turning 14 in sept.

3.8 gpa willing to tutor children or read to them

You can volunteer almost anywhere. Before you do, Ask yourself the following questions: How many hours can you commit to a day....a week...a month? What do you want to do(deliver food, answer phones, etc)? What setting are you comfortable in (hospital, outdoors, kids, HIV, homeless etc)? Then what do you hope to gain besides showing support for the community (do you hope to be a better leader, better communicator, skills...)?

I would check out NYC Cares http://www.nycares.org/ and

Volunteer NY http://www.volunteernyc.org/volunteer/. Both websites you can choose the area and see what is out there.

Then you have Long island.com http://www.longisland.com/charities/

AND Long Island Volunteer Center is a resource for volunteerism and community service initiatives throughout Nassau & Suffolk Counties.

They have stuff for teens too! Just get parents permission.

However, if you really want something close to where you live you can look for Retirement Homes, Adult day care centers, youth facilities, any ethnic/civic organization....its almost endless to what you can do. And if anything else does not suit you.You can volunteer for museums or libary or hospitals. Check out what organization your parents are in. Examples: My union needs help. My civic affiliation (AUSA, American Heart, Red Cross, USO) needs help. You can always 'volunteer' by helping someone you know that may need help...babysitting, shopping for an elderly person, etc.
