  1. go to fish and chip

  2. Semi-posh restaurants in London:

Lanesborough Hotel (near Hyde Park Corner) - beautiful and decent food with dancing afterwards - suggest you dress up for this - 65 a head

Nobu in the Met Hotel (near Hyde Park Corner) - 35 a head

Rhodes at the Cumberland - decent english food and they may have some room left.  They are quite accommodating. (35 a head)

You will have a difficult time for semi-posh places.

Other, relaxed places with good food:

Big Easy on the King's Road in Chelsea is fantastic for a great time and it's possible for short notice.

Or try Belgo's in Covent Garden (good beer and mussels).  Though informal, it's good.

  3. Have you tried http://www.toptable.co.uk ?

  4. If you don't mind Indian then there is lovely restaurant called Deya in Portman Street or La Porte Des Indes in bryanston street which is fantastic in ambience and taste.

  5. Don't know which area you're looking at, but one of the best gastro pubs in London, with one of the greatest wine collections in the country is just up the road from me in Battersea.  I had my birthday in their private room which takes 25 people and had a wonderful meal.  They even have a CD player so you can bring your own music!

The Greyhound is on Battersea High Street, nearest station is Clapham Junction.  If they are available, you will be emailed a menu and you have to preorder, but it really is worth it.  The food is fab and it's a strange but lovely little place.

    Good luck!

  6. Semi-posh? Why dont you go the whole hog and book the Raddison Edwardian... thats swish... Hotel Julius Caeser is a neat but not too formal place Queensway Station on the central line near Hyde Park.... is only rated as 2 star but its lots better than that. Bedrooms uncluttered All nite tele, ensuite shower etc.
