  1. Don't bother. Get a new cistern.

  2. The problem you`ll have is each time you flush you put presure on the cistern so any repair you try can come undone causing flooding ,get it replaced through you house insurance.

  3. The only sucessful way is to drain the cistern and let it dry out. This will take some time. You could speed it up with a hairdryer. Then use a clear epoxy resin. If the crack is wet it will not work.

  4. There are "water-proof" Epoxies available at most home stores, or you could try a boat supply dealer.

  5. Try mighty putty...that stuff they advertise on tv

  6. According to the TV commercial...Mighty Putty!

Actually I repaired a crack near the top of my toilet's water tank, by lowering the water level, drying the crack well and filling with an epoxie glue, then covering it with a layer of duct tape. It lasted for a year or so, 'til I replaced it!

  7. My Son's cracked cistern finally broke when he tried to flush the toilet. Water all over the bathroom, and continuing to flood from the supply ball-valve. Replace as soon as possible- its quite easy if you have a few spanners. If you can't afford a new one, join your local Yahoo Freecycle group and almost certainly get one given you for free.

    Flush with care  until!
