Need advice from moms who use EC?

I'm using EC ( http://www.natural-wisdom.com/ ) with my twins. They are 4 months old now. I started a few weeks ago and we have a real progress. during day we don't have dirty clothes or diapers (I don't put a diaper during day anymore, except when we go out - just in case). I want to ask other moms who have tried this method - when did you stop putting a diaper during night? During day I see the babies' signals when do they need to go (special look, special move, they are little signals but I recognize them) but during night I can't do that. When one of the babies is wet or dirty at night, she starts crying and doesn't stop until I change her. I noticed they usually go around almost the same hours. If I use an alarm clock and wake up at these times exactly (instead of waiting the girls to cry) and we go to the potty, then could I leave them without diapers during night? I'm not sure because they are 4 months yet and I'm really not sure whether it's time to remove the night diaper since we removed te day diaper a few weeks ago. So, moms who use that method, what do I do now?

  1. It's your choice and your willingness to do dirty laundry and forgoing sleep that will drive this. We took the baby to the toilet around 10 pm and then let her sleep all night, except for changing her when she got wet and let me know.

You can EC with diapers on or without. The key is consistently watching the babies clues and taking them to the toilet on time during the day. At night, you can let the baby drive it. IMHO, It's hard to sustain no sleep for long.

But be aware that the babies could go through a potty strike once they start getting mobile and are interested in play.

We started our baby with EC at 4 months of age. We used diapers all the time due to the carpets but are diligent ECers. We got her pees 99% and poops 100% of the time. She was dry all night too (used the method above - no feed after last pee).

But about a month age( at 6 months of age), she started having potty strikes - arching her back and refusing to go, and then peeing a few minutes later. Since EC is not about forcing the baby, we are not forcing her to go. We continue to offer her the potty and keep coming back a few minutes later. So be prepared for change and let it not frustrate you.

In the meanwhile enjoy the fun and satisfaction of ECing your baby.

  2. I have never used that method... kinda just put my daughter on the potty to get her used to it so when potty training come into play she would know what to do... and how to tell me... we just worked it into our day slowly I guess.. but had I known about this method I might have tried it.

So the answer to your question, well the best I can give is try it... its not going to hurt anything more than likely when you get them up they are going to go to the bathroom.... Kids are mostly trial and error... maybe one of the twins will like adjust to it easily and the other won't, kids even twins all move at a different pace...! Hope I've helped and Good Luck!
