Need advice on 4 year olds fears?

We put our son in ice skating lessons, he is 4 and has been ice skating since he was 2 but we wanted him to have formal lessons only if he wanted to. He did really good at first but now they moved him up to the bigger class and he is afraid to go back for some reason, we brought him to the class to show him that it is no big deal and not much more than what he was doing but he wants to quit. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can help him understand that his fears are unfounded.

  1. Obviously something happened. I would take him to the classes just to watch for a few times. If after a few classes he still does not want to participate, move on. Please don't push too much or he may never want to skate again. Let this be his choice.

  2. Maybe he isn't afraid of the skating part.  Maybe someone was mean to him like the teacher or other kids.  You don't know what goes on behind closed doors.  I would say maybe take him out and let him do what he wants.  that is what you said at the beginning and now when he wants to quit you change your mind.  I am not trying to be rude but trust his instints.  He could have great potential in this sport, but if you force him to go now when he obviously isn't ready it will be a bigger issue later on.
