  1. weiner dog

  2. I have 4 pugs and they are awesome with children and easy to potty train as long as you stay persistent. But have puppy pads and a crate to crate train them it makes life alot easier later on .

  3. Beagle !

  4. Start at the shelter. If you still think you need a purebred dog around children, I highly recommend a Whippet. They are sturdy enough to be around children, have good temperaments, are intelligent, and have few health problems. We had 3 Whippets when my children were growing up, and they were fantastic! Despite what they say, they can also learn to be good with cats. Ours actually loved cats and used them as "heaters" in the winter : - )

  5. Pugs are a good choice. They are not overly hyper and they like being with their people.

I would not go with the JRT. They are extremely high energy, easily bored, and will get destructive when bored. They are a big challenge to care for and definitely not a good mix with really young children.

  6. ANY dog can and probably will be a biter when "messed with a lot". You should never leave a dog alone with small children and you should immediately start teaching your children the appropriate way to treat animals. Otherwise, you're just asking for trouble.

ETA: You're the one who said that the dog "can't be a biter" and I'm telling you that any and every dog can be a biter. Sure, some breeds are typically more docile than others, but every dog is an individual and you can't expect a dog not to defend itself against being "messed with a lot" (again - YOUR words)

  7. do not go with dachshunds or beagles, i have had experience with all kinds of dogs and those to are very mouthy. i think pugs are a very good choice if you get it while its a puppy. check out this page on pugs.

  8. Definitely not a JRT or any Terrier.

  9. A Pug would be one of only a few small breeds that would be OK with kids due to their sturdy build.  However, any dog may bite if 'messed with a lot', so please do be aware of that.  Other breeds that you may want to look at are the Boston Terrier and French Bulldog.  They are both also sturdier, hardier small breeds than most that are able to deal with a small amount of roughhousing.  Plus they will shed less than a Pug does, if that is important to you.

  10. Pugs had a pretty docile temperment.

Pugs are a good choice, also look at mini poodles, beagles, and shih tzus.

  11. Weiner dogs (dacshunds) I would not recommend. I had one that I treated like a child even when I had my first child. He got aggressive with people and bit a friend of mines son who was just three at the time. He had to have 27 stitches in his face.

Apparently he did have some disease causing his aggressiveness, but we had sent him to live on a farm by then.

I have heard the Welsh Corgis are good dogs. Boston Terriers are great too.

Do a lot of research though.

We ended up getting Boxers because of their temperaments with children. We had talked to a lot of owners and breeders locally and online.

  12. http://dogtime.com/matchup/start?gclid=C... this is a site that asks you questions about your lifestyle, and suggests breeds according to that

  13. No, there eyes pop out too easy don't get one for small kids

  14. Well I would suggest a breed that you don't have to comb, considering you have 2 young children.  Grooming is really important with an animal but your kids are more important.  Yet on the other hand that leaves you with a dog that sheds.  Now personally I think your best bet is going to the pound and doing a little research.  Talk to the people there, find out if the dog was given up b/c where the person moved they couldn't have dogs yet they had kids and the dog loves kids.....it might be a little bigger but little dogs tend to snip more.  Yet a little dog bite is that little a big dog bite is big.  My next dog will be a boxer.  They aren't little but they are the best with kids.....hope this rambling helps.

  15. As far as temperament goes, pugs are very good with children, especially if you get a younger pug and it's brought up with the children. However, it does normally take them a little bit longer to learn, but they aren't stupid, sometimes just a little stubborn. But yes, I think a pug would be good seeing as it isn't big enough to push the children around as much as say a bigger dog would, and it isn't a smally built dog that would get hurt if the children were a little rough with it. Sometimes youll see pugs that are a little bit hyperactive, but it's the way they are raised that makes that happen, as long as you dont encourage the dog being crazy then it won't happen.

    hope this helped :)

  16. What do you mean by 'messed with a lot'????? That doesnt sound like a very nice environment for a small dog to be living in.

Can I suggest, as many millions of people world wide do, rather than just finding a dog that can handle being 'messed with a lot' teach your young girls what is and isnt appropriate behaviour? No dog, no matter how well socialised, bred, trained etc, is going to tolerate two small children hurting it (not that they will all the time, but they might by accident) and there will certainly be kids getting bitten.

So once you are prepared to teach your children the appropriate behaviour, go to your local shelter and get a puppy.

EDIT: So sorry for answering a poorly worded question the best way I could. If your kids are behaved and know how to be gentle, seriously, go to your local shelter and take you pick of the puppies there!! A cross bred mix that is raised in the right environment will make a fantastic pet for your girls.

  17. Yea I think a pug would be a great choice or even a jack russel terrier.

  18. pugs a good choice but make sure u fix the dog, they're horney little dogs, humps everything.  i've owned one and my friend has owned 3, all horney little dogs, once neutered they were ok.

  19. I know this goes completely against the "small" breed idea, but golden retrievers are THE best with kids or anyone they come into contact with for that matter. Very easy to train, too. In a nutshell: smartest and sweetest breed I have found. Good luck! My friend brings her 2 yr old daughter over all the time and pulls on my goldens fur, face, rides him, pokes him. He wags his tail and occasionaly kisses her.

  20. Pugs are nice dogs, very sweet and layed back.

    although......

    They are extreme shedders!!!

i haven't seen a breed shed more then a pug.

But qith proper brushing and bathing will help cut that down.

    i say go for it.

    they are amazing dogs.

i also suggest ether a terrier of some sort.

they are great with children and LOVE to work and please.

  21. Miniature Daschunds are really nice and are docile.  My miniature daschund is nice with the kids that live at my house, and they scream 24/7 and play around her a lot. Get a female, they are more protective with kids(but get her fixed cause they could have a surprise).  The children that live with me are 1yr, 5yrs, and 11.

  22. Pugs are a decent choice, but I personally have a mixed breed dog that's half chihuahua and half poodle and was bred specifically for it's temperament. My dog has been around tons of other dogs and cats and I have 3 boys ages 7,4, and 2 that I babysit and the 2 year old especially picks her up and carries her weird or maybe pulls on her legs and all she does is finds somewhere to hide for a while but still LOVES them and plays with them constantly. Plus she is only like 4 pounds and is super cute. She has the best fur and hardly ever sheds and doesn't require grooming. I recommend this intentional mix breed and they're becoming more popular and easier to find because they're "designer dogs". Also I know exactly what you mean about kids and dogs. I've never met a kid who is completely careful with a puppy no matter how well behaved they are. Also, poodles are incredibly smart so my dog was trained very easily.

  23. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.. they are so sweet and good family dogs, or a dachshund, both really sweet good loving dogs
