We are seniors (age type) and wish to go London to Paris, then Paris to Rome, staying two days in Paris. Are there special fares for seniors? Are some trains to be preferred? The travel is in July.

  1. Going London to Paris, you'll probably take the Eurostar line. They do have senior discounts for those over age 60.

Going Paris to Rome, you'll most likely be on the French national train line SNCF. This is the company that operates most of the high-speed TGV trains--which are definitely to be preferred over the slower trains. They also have reductions for those over age 60, but you have to get one of their "Carte Senior" cards. The reductions are around 25% inside of France, but I don't know how they apply to voyages outside of the country.

The two relevant websites are below. Check there for additional details.

  2. The best trains working between Rome and Paris are night trains - enabling to travel in sleeping-cars - or T2 -

There are no TGV between Paris and Rome - trains going in tunnels under the Alps - rails do not accept TGVs -

Senior prices are valuable for more than 60 years old, if they buy a yearly card - so  you have to calculate if the price of the card on only one trip is really worth it -
