Question:

Need advice on becoming a vegetarian...

I have wanted to become a vegetarian (maybe vegan) for some time now, but the main issues I have been facing is my husband refuses to, I guess, allow me to buy certain things (you know, vegetables and tofu). I finally have convinced him to let me and the kids get that stuff and he can get seperate items....I guess my question is just if anyone has any advice on good products and recipes. (another issue is we live in Alaska so not much variety up here....if there IS someone from the Anchorage area that knows good stores, I would love to know that as well.)

  1. Hey, i'm a vegetarian and it's probably the best thing i done..i'm from the UK so can't really help with shops or that but i'm sure there is places you can buy online..go onto the PETA website and you can send away for a starter pack and it will give you some advice on food and a few recipes..I'd advise you should maybe start being vegetarian first and see how it goes before going vegan but it's your choice.

I'm not sure whether you will eat soya meat stuff..i don't but if you do you could still make meals for the whole family without changing the meals you eat and your husband will be able to enjoy the meals also or make things like vegetable lasagne instead of with meat.

I hope i've helped a little I feel like i've wrote a book so i won't write any more unless you want to ask me anything else lol...Good Luck!!

  2. just don't eat meat

  3. I'm a veggie and my husband is a carnivore and we coexist nicely.  There are alot of great recipes online for vegans and vegetarians.  Ask your pediatrician about changing your children to a vegetarian diet and see what supplements or added nutrients they would need for their "growing" years

  4. i dont think should b a veggie person. meat is gud.

  5. get the fake meat. im vegetarian and i get morning star a lot. also whole meals that are vegetarian you can usaully get in a grocery store in the frozen section. Amy's is the best to me, but theres a lot out there. and also theres also grains that are high in protiens such a quinoa (sorry for the spelling). and for a last resort just get beans. :P

  6. i wasa vegan for sometimes, always have in ur fridge these products

    soy milk

    soy meat

    soy cheese

    whole wheet bread

tofu im not a fan of it but you can beln it with the food and if u cut it real small u wont be able to fel it

    peanut butter

    of coarse veg and fruits

u can buy suptitute egg if u want to make things like cake or pancakes

  7. you are making your kids be vegitarians???

    thats terrible

    eat

    meat

    people these days...

  8. Your husband refuses to let you buy vegetables????

You can't go wrong with stirfry.

  9. I used to be vegetarian...i used to eat brown rice with veggies and salad...also veggie stews...and when I went to Taco Bell I ordered beans instead of meat.

Also: Salmon with mashed potatoes and green beans. Alaskan salmon is the best and most beneficial.

Here's a helpful tip: my mom makes tofu and black bean enchiladas. They're so good that my family members who refuse to eat healthy or vegetarian eat them!  Just tell your husband that they're chicken.^^ Works every time! My cousins believe me!

And why is your husband not allowing you to buy things? Buy them anyway! This happened in my family: my family decided to eat vegetarian and my dad learned to cook his own food. He didn't like what was in the fridge so he just ate what he made.

You can get Stouffers lasagna...they have great tasting vegetarian warm-up meals...or pizza with cherry tomatoes, garlic, and basil. Tastes great! Take Boboli pre-made pizza crust, pizza sauce, cherry tomatoes, mince 1-2 cloves of garlic, and fresh or dried basil (dried use very little; the flavor is more intense).

Tacos without meat...trust me...you get used to it and stop craving meat. After a while, meat tastes kinda gross with it...

Dont' go towards vegan because it's almost impossible to sustain a successful diet that way...

    Hope this helps!

But beware...eat tons of spinach...i didn't and i got anemic.

  10. tip number 1

    dont eat meat
