Need advice on buying a new laptop, please.?

I need to buy a laptop and could use a little advice.

What I plan to use the laptop for - itunes, shopping, paying bills, email, basic things like that.I don't play games or watch movies, etc.

I don't want to spend a fortune on a lot of things I don't need... but also don't want to get a cheap laptop that is slow and annoying. What should I be looking for? Processor, hard drive, memory, etc? Also if you have suggestions on a particular brand that'd be great too. I have a Dell for my work laptop, but open to any.

Thanks!

  1. I think the Dell Inspirion 1500 series of laptops are excellent for what you want to do. I had horrible problems in the past with HP, Compaq and Gateway. I switched to Dell a few years ago and have had no complaints.

Now Microsoft and Windows....that's another story.

  2. Ok the basic stats you are looking for are as follows:

Processor: anything with duel cores or better

Hard drive: get a 160Gig+ HD

Get at least 1 gig of RAM (memory) if you are going to run vista get 2 gigs

I would check out the laptops on dell.com/outlet, they are refurbished but they come with the same warranty that a new dell does. I have gotten 2 of these for family members in the last month

  3. (look for something along these lines)

    hard drive = 40 GB

Memory = (DDR, SDRAM) 256 MB

    processor = core 2 duo

brands aren't a problem, HP seems to be the best at the moment though.

  4. Hey aunty.

    don't do it.

    buy me shoes instead.

    :)

  5. Try an Acer or Dell they are fast, cheap, and reliable. Basic things would require 1gig of ram, around or above 80gb, and any duel core should be fine. Stay away from HP, they are unreliable, and have horrible tech support.
