Need advice on buying affordable clubs

i wanted to know the best clubs to buy were at a somewhat affordable price? the amount im looking to spend is about 400$ on a set of irons... im a very new to golf but decent average about 12-18 over par at most courses.. wanted to know what clubs to get for a player looking to improve

A game improvement iron is what you're looking for.  Mizuno MX-25, Nike Ignite, Wilson Ci7, and Ping G10.

I would get the r7 draw steel shaft.  They work the best and are 400$.

A few options to consider....

1st consider your height.  If you are a tall person you want to get oversized clubs.  You could get oversized generic clubs for about $400.  This would, by far, be the best set of clubs you can get.  

If you are of average height 6"0 or shorter your best bet would be to go for GENTLY used namebrand (i.e. Titelist, TaylorMade, Calloway, Nike).

The last option would be to go with a new set of a lesser name club (i.e. Wilson).

Personally I'd go for options 1 or 2 in the price range you specified.

You should be able to find quite a few options for $400 on a set of irons. You will probably be able to find a really good used set for less than that. There are many "game improvement" irons out there in that price range. I would look for something with a little more technology in them and nothing that is a "blade" design. Your best bet is to go to your local golf shop and have them look at your look at your swing and what you are trying to get out of the clubs.

I personally use a set of cobra s9's that i paid $400 for awhile back and I love them. Dead straight every time even on mishits! good luck in your search!

Depending upon where you live there should be a golf store of some sort or a driving range that lets you demo clubs.  You have to hit the clubs and see what feels comfortable or gives you the best results.

There are so many choices out there, with graphite shafts, cavity backing, etc. You have to try some out and find a few kinds you like and then go find a deal on them. Don't be afraid to buy used irons. You can look at them and see how much wear they have. Usually you will save on the used set and when you are more serious and really want to get a new set then you can do the same thing. As your game gets better, you can get different clubs to fit your game.  Some have more feel, some are more forgiving.  

I have had my irons for about 6 years now and I still manage a few rounds under par every year, so get something you hit on the range first. Get the ones you like and get the best results from. Its your wedges that the grooves wear out and the drivers that keep going further. All in all, the irons haven't changed as much.

get some adams golf, or ben hogan clubs...they are pretty sweet..or wilson staff

to go to a professional club maker and be fitted to the right heads and shafts and grips .or go to a golf course and see if they have demos on sale and see the PGA teaching  pro
