My girl is doing great with cheerios- can pick them up and chew good- she has two teeth. She eats pieces of potato and noddles, as well as soft fruits well also. Anyone have other suggestions for good soft finger foods for her? When can babies have egg- isn't just one part first?

  1. Go to walmart and get her some little puff's. You can also try baby mum mum's. These are both great snacks for baby. My baby is also 8 months. Good Luck.

  2. Oh my gosh, I'm such a chicken to give her anything because I'm afraid she will choke.  She is 9 months old in 3 days but she does eat Cheerios and loves the Puffs by Gerber Stages.  Gerber has a couple stages for foods like this. Good Luck

  3. Well from experience with my daughter, who is 2 now, she absolutely loved those Gerber Graduate foods. Some examples of them were fruit puffs which come in all flavors, yogurt flavored bites: check them out in your local grocery store infant/toddler isle. I also know that cooked carrots and canned green beans were a good starter for my little one. As for the eggs I'm not exactly sure what age is appropriate for children but my daughter ate scrambled eggs by the age of 9mths or so and she still loves them to this day. Good luck with your finger food endevours and hope this helped some.

  4. my daughter used to love the Puffs that are in the baby isle also she is a big fan of goldfish.  Now she has moved on to animal crackers and she loves hot dogs...or course she really eats anything that we do but she is 16 months old

  5. Suitable finger foods for an 8 mth old are: cheese pieces (or sticks), a mild type cheese, cooked pieces of vegetable, such as broccolli, potatoe, carrot (if given raw is a choking hazard), soft fruits, such as banana, ripe piece of pear, peach, nectarine, shredded meat like ham, roast meat, toast fingers.

Just be warned you need to be in visual distance as babies can choke on anything.

Egg is offered at 9 mths of age if there is no family history of egg allergy in the family. Start with a well cooked egg, offer 1/4 of the yolk, then next time you offer egg try 1/2 yolk and increase till all yolk is taken. Once a whole yolk is well tolerated you can try the whole egg and offer scambbled or poached eggs or omelete.

  6. My daughter loves her "ham sandwiches" I get the cubed pieces of ham and cut them into even smaller cubes, pieces of cheese and small pieces of whole wheat bread and put the assortment on her high chair tray and let her go at it. Also, gerber makes small freeze dried fruits that are great for snacks at home or on the go.Eggs, after one year...the yolks you can have anytime, its the whites that are allergenic. But if egg allergies run in the family I would hold off on the whole egg for a while yet. I give my daughter basically anything we are eating, as long as it is healthy. I just make sure everything she gets is bite sized. I also give her cut up raisins. They are a bit chewier, thats why I cut them smaller..just in case :). Cooked or canned peas are also great finger foods.

  7. My son is nine-months old. Some of the foods he now eats are...

black beans, tofu, egg (yolk only), toast, pasta, pretty much any cooked vegetable, fruits, rice

He definitely makes a mess, but he does get a good deal in his mouth. And we have never had a choking problem!

  8. Our son was still really just doing cheerios & puffs at 8 months, and then abruptly made the jump to total table foods at 10 months. Now at 12 months there isn't anything he won't eat. You could try cutting up a Kraft single... or baked beans are a favorite in our house.

I read so much about the dos/and dont's of eggs for babies. My son's been having egg since he was 10 months, and never had a problem with it. I did just do the yolks at first, but he has recently been wanting more so he'll eat a whole egg for breakfast. If your girl takes well to egg you can also start doing things like pancakes etc. Have you tried many veggies yet? Soft cooked carrots are good, and peas.

Once they start eating all table foods life becomes so much easier. It's such a fun stage... enjoy it :-) Good luck!

  9. My baby loves those Gerber puffs. She has been eating them for a few months, and shes almost 10 months old.

I think that you can also give your baby mashed potatoes if you want to, since they are soft and dont really need any chewing, then again that isnt really finger food.

A lot of what she can eat depends on how many teeth she has and how well she takes to chewing her food. Also how well she swallows her food.

And I just learned that the part of eggs that the baby, if she were to have an allergic reaction to it, would be the yolk. I didnt hear this from a doctor but a relative- so im not really sure of how true it is- but I trust this person completely so I think its true.

Anyway- good luck with your girl!
