Fairly happy with set up,but now the season has started Ive started changing my back position. Not sure which way to go.

1.Should I keep it straighter and more upright with hands hanging down.

2.Bend more over the ball with hands stretched out

To be honest Ive tried them both and can't decide. And I'll chop and change all season again if I don't stay with one stance.

  1. Definately NO 1

  2. Look at the tour players, they all may have slightly different swing, different back swing, different follow through, but there's one thing that is mostly consistent, their stance.  Stand athletic, feet shoulder width or slightly wider, arms straight and loose down (not outstretch to the ball).

  3. The stance is for the feet to be separated a comfortable distance apart, with the body slightly bent at the waist , fairly straight back  and a reach for the ball. with the hands slightly in front so that your shoulder turn will not be restricted. See what Teachers like Ledbetter, Rick Smith, Stan Utley  say. Use the one which suits your frame the best. Just be consistent.

  4. Whichever is more comfortable and consistent. Usually a more upright stance promotes power.

  5. I've got to tell ya,  Do the natural thing, Just set up and swing the club, wherever the club brushes the ground and it feels good ,that's where you should be, just put the ball in the way.   good luck.

  6. Very interesting I have pondered that myself! I have found a good tip is to make sure your hands lead about 1/2 inch to 1/4 of an inch ahead of the ball at address on all shots. Standing to tall can  make your takeaway go directly to the outside from the beginning this kills your swing from  the get go. The truth is regardless of your body type The happy medium rule works best. This means make sure your not standing to tall or bent over to much both of these effect shaft angle at address.  Find your happy medium and just bend your knees slightly to allow for a full turn. I highly recommend you don't stand to tall for this is a weak set up that limits your power!

  7. Check out this video on stance. It shows that you should have your arms hanging straight down. http://www.ultimategolfsystem.com/a/pfo/... You will have to scroll down the page about 2/3 to watch it.

  8. 'Whilst I am not a disciple of all he says, pick up David Leadbetters first book and that gives the stance in what I feel is correct detail and certainly the accepted wisdom on the subject. In case you haven't got it, he advocates standing upright with the club held horizontally, dropping the club on to ground and bending slightly from the hips, with your bum sticking out slightly.
