Question:

Need advice on how to treat a deep tissue bruise?

I had a car accident almost 2 months ago, and received a couple broken bones-heel, hand, and a deep tissue bruise on right chest. X-rays were taken and the ER doc, my reg doc, & ortho doc all examined and told me it was just a deep tissue bruise and would take time to heal. I've been told use ice, use heat than ice, and leave it alone. It still is tender to the touch and sometimes it hurts. It's still purple and stillI have a huge bump on my chest. It is going down. Any suggestions for treating. Should I go back to the doctor?

  1. Your body will eventually absorb the blood that is causing the bruise and it does take time, especially a large bruise. To help it along, use moist heat, not dry heat. Take a small towel, soak it with hot water, ring it out then apply to the bruised area. Do this several times and at least two times a day. Should get rid of the bump and bruise in a short time. Going back to the Doctors won't help either because there is nothing they can do for it. Now in another month if that isn't feeling any better and the bruise gone, you might want to have them check deeper into what it really is, but I think they are right what they told you now. Be patient and thankful that things weren't worse from the accident. Best of luck to you young lady. Hope things mend quickly for you.
