Hi, I am new to Delhi and have opted for it as an exam centre. I will be staying at the Infantry Hostel (near Gopinath) in the cantonment area. Details are

Centre-Lal Bahadur shastri college (somewhere near IIT).

Dates-June 26 - June 29

Timings would be 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM, 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM.

I am a single female and would like to know a safe and convenient way to travel. I checked with the Cabs services (Easy, Metro and Delhi) and found the fare to be approx 300 - 400 (one sided). I found it expensive. Is there a better option that I may use as I have been told that to find a public transport from The Infantry Hostel is very difficult. Please help. Thanks.

  1. Reaching near IIT from Gopinath Bazaar is not difficult.... u can simply take autorikshaw and it will be very economical. No need to worry at all.

Pls dont mind....even I can help u out....:):)

  2. The cantt area is on the outskirts of delhi, but nowadays its not lonely. it falls between south and west delhi. just take an auto rickshaw. pay abt 50-80rs one way till iit. or u can take an auto upto dhaula kuan or moti bagh, and catch a bus frm there. shud cost abt 25rs till dhaula kuan and then another ten bucks or so. just dont venture out alone at night because thats when the cantt gets lonely. i wont say it wont be safe, but the roads are confusing and u might get lost. stay safe and act smart. no one will be able to guess ur not a delhiite. good luck for ur exams, do well.

  3. Your name is the same as mine actually. I live near Delhi but I am not sure where is Gopinath. (He's in Vrindavan Himself). Is cantonement in west Delhi? I'm not sure but I think so. I'll look at a map and try to come back and do an edit. My long (10 years) experience with Delhi is that public transport is fine for ladies in the daytime. To find a good reliable taxi service is also not easy. I can give you my Delhi address here. The people there know some good taxi companies. Better to book one than just get any flagged down on the road. I believe myself that the auto rickshaws are really fine. The new Delhi metro train covers a lot but not all areas of Delhi. It goes into the west through Janak Puri where I stay. It is very pleasant travel because it beats the very busy traffic. Taxis are the most expensive and in my opinion, not always necessary. You can visit or send a letter to this address because there are nice people there who can help and I will be there sometimes also. Its a temple with a guest house. Sri Raman Bihari Gaudiya Math. B3 block next to musical fountain park, Janak Puri (near JP east metro)

I hope that is some help.
