Question:

Need advice on these electric scooters?

The description from the guys selling them was that they were Phanthom IV and Sola models but I can't find a review online anywhere. He wants $400 dollars for both of them... we live about three 4-5 miles from work and we just want a way to commute back and forth in a cheap way. Are these good?

  1. Well the price is certainly good.  As grizz mentioned the problem will be getting a replacement battery for the Phantom IV.  The Sola shouldn't be a problem.

Bear in mind that both of these scooters have a top speed of about 15 mph, so they're not exactly speedy.  That's about as fast as you can go on a decent bicycle.

But again, the price is really good.  The only issue is that the batteries will eventually need replacing, and you're probably up a creek when the Phantom battery dies.  A bicycle or even electric bicycle wouldn't be a bad option either.

  2. I would advise you to look at electric bikes.  Might be closer to $400 for one of them, but they are a lot faster and more reliable, and go a lot further.  (Mine, however, cost $1500).

That said, $400 for both of yours is probably a good price.

  3. Unfortunately Electra Voy, the company that made the Phantom 4, has gone out of business so if you encounter any problems you may not be able to get parts.  Plus it is known for being very underpowered.

The Sola scooter manufacturer is still in business.  The price seems right, it might be worth buying just the Sola and investing in fresh batteries.
