please no negative reply, i have tried to find homes or a place at a no kill shelter for my 3 cats. but i'm moving in with my son and his family to help them financially and his wife and child are allergic i would like to transform the tool shed to a cat shelter for them and need advice on doing so. any positive advise is appreciated this is the only option i have unless i take them to a animal shelter where they will be put to sleep if not adopted and that way when i move out on my own i can take them with me

  1. I think it is a good thing that you are not just handing them over to be put to sleep if not adopted out.

Try putting steps up the wall to a place where they can be high up sense all cats enjoy being high up.  Make sure it is heated in the winter either with a space heater (that they can not get too) or electric blankets, and kept cool in the summer.  Lots of toys and ways for them to entertain themselves, and a bed for each cat.

The most important thing is that you still spend a good amount of time with them every day or they will think you have abandoned them and want nothing to do with them.

  2. It is so refreshing to see someone wanting to do what is best for the people and the kitties, instead of just trying to get rid of the kitties!

Is this shed wood construction?  I think you could nicely convert it into a cute kitty house and be a little more secure than a metal building.  If you know a handyman that could put in a few small windows, insulate it, get a remnant piece of carpet and padding, and build some perches, it would a nice area for the kitties.  My nephew did this for a lady several years ago and it was very nice and didn't cost a lot of money.

I have attached a link that I hope can give you some more ideas.  One of the enclosures is a barn styled utility building that someone used and also built outside runs.  If you live in a nice climate, this would be a good way for the kitties to get some fresh air and socialize with you and your son's family but hopefully in the open air, not cause an allergic reaction.

    Purrs to you and kitties.
