  1. You'll need a working holiday visa for that, it's only a temporary visa. But if you want to work permanently, you need to be a skilled migrant.

One of the requirements of a holiday working visa for Australia is: "You must have sufficient funds (generally deemed to be at least- AU$5,000) to support your trip and purchase a return airfare". So your AUD4,900 wont do... You can check out other requirements here http://www.nationalvisas.com.au/working/...

  2. I live in the north shore of Sydney, and i got a job within a day of looking...

Just my experience, might be different for you.

If you just spend a while asking around at pubs etc and make it clear about how long you want to work there, you should be fine.

  3. yes ! but could be tight!! things like toiletres etc are really expensive so take plenty of these to tie you over - tampax/shaving stuff etc a total rip off!

Jobs no problems at all - they expect that - also the fruit picking season is coming on and that also pays well, allback packers hostals has lists of jobs etc and you will see notices in all pubs etc -I would say though that Sydney is quiet hard to find work - if you cant catch the train to Woy Woy which is about 1 hour away ( i think!! ) this area was like a surfy beach area where a lot of rich sydney people have holiday homes, they have loads of holiday parks that were cheap to stay in with lots of bars to get jobs!!

Also coming into Cairns peak time - Great Barrier reef boat trips peak times to employ people - you may have to stay in cheaper areas to get work , but to be honest that is half the fun!

We did it for 6 weeks with 2 kids under 4 years - we all had a life changing time and survived!!!

good luck and have a safe and happy trip - make loads of memories as it is a trip of a lifetime xxxx

  4. Stay there!  We dont want imported labour.

  5. Hi. my daughter went to Oz 3 years ago on a year back packing the visa she went on allowed her to work in a job for 3 months then she had to find another and so on, she was in Brisbane and found it really hard because nobody wants to employ you to train you up for you to have to finish in 3 months, she ended up doing call centres working 24/7. leaving the house at 6 in a morning and getting home about 10 at night,, but she stuck with it and found somebody to sponsor her and she gets her residency this month, to work in bars you have to have a licence which means you have to pay to go on a course for a few days, dont know what the pay is like once you get it but i used to work in Sydney waitressing in the 70's and the pay was great and the tips used to triple my wage. Anna went over with $4000 and she survived nearly a year until she got the good job that she has and travelled around for at least 6months of that, you should have plenty of cash as long as your careful with it , some of the backpackers places are abismal she used to check everone out on the net before she booked anywhere. hope you have a great trip, i arrived in Perth in 1972 with $50 and travelled over there for 3 years but having said that they wernt as strict on work visas, its a fabulous country and if you have any sense you wont come back here, im leaving to live there in a years time. good luck.If you havent applied for your visa you need to do it asap, anna trawled through loads of different visas for months before she went and it can take some time for it to come through.
