to DR in September. He want to stay in punta Cana but I heard from other people that juandolio and puerto plata are better. We are looking for a great and big pool ( extra points if have a water slide) great daily activities, great restaurants, access to the beach, and a place where we get to know DR. My husband is "Dominican" from NY.

I als heard about the zip line and

swimming w dolphins?Budget under 300.00 per night for the hotel.

  1. Try TripAdvisor.com.  Punta Cana is pretty remote and consists mostly of all-inclusive resorts.

  2. In the Dominican Republic you have 3 major places for tourism :

    1. Punta Cana, very nice Hotels/Resorts, but once outside the hotel, there is not much to do or discover. Next town is about 50 km away ( Higuey). A lot of aquatic excursions but nothing

    more.

    2. Puerto Plata, very nice Hotels/Resorts, big beaches, some resorts have big pools, Ocean World ( swim with Dolphins),

Isabella de Torre ( cable car), Puerto Plata city is about 15 min from resorts by public bus, Isabella Historica tour where you can discover the first Catholic Church of the New World, The 1st house of C. Columbus, and also Paradise Island, and so many thing more...

    3. Juan Dolio, at 75 km from Santo Domingo (capital) is a

strip (Boulevard) with some hotels and that's it, outside some shops and restaurants. The beach is narrow and you need long transport time to go and discover.

This in a few words what you can expect from this 3 major places. If you need more info you can always e-mail me.

I hope you find your pick and enjoy it!

  3. Beaches at Punta Cana are alot better. Puerto plata the beach is dark sand not very nice. We went to Soshua and the sand was like flour....beautiful.
