Need advice with job?

Ok I'm 16 and started my first job a few weeks ago. It's working in a shop and at first I thought it would be ok, with money coming in but now I'm wishing I never got it at all. The staff comprises of a few 17/18yr olds who swear, left school with no qualfications and 1 who openly talks about s*x and contraception all the time when there's customers there. There's adults there as well obviously but most of them are just the same. Just miserable and gormless. There's only 2 who I think are alright.

Anyway...what I was going to say is, I don't really feel as if I fit in there at all. I'm just completely different to them. They've all got these broad yorkshire accents which make me sound like the bloody queen as well. People have always said stuff about my accent but I feel like I stick out even more here. I'm always polite but find myself sat there being ignored at times when I try to speak to some of the staff there. I'm fed up with snappy rude customers in there as well.

What do you think I should do? Stick it out for a while or find a different job?

  1. Making Money is not easy. Kids now a days dont pay too much attention towards learning skills.

There is a lesson for you that if you did not study and achieve good skills then you will have to do this sort of job with this sort of people.

  3. Welcome to the real world.  Everyone at some point in their lives is going to have a job that they really don't like.  Leaving this job because you don't fit in with your co-workers is not a good idea and dealing with snappy customers....well that's going to happen with any job you have in customer service.  You're just going through an adjustment period with this being your first job and all.  Stick it out until you get your first paycheck and then you'll see if it's all worth it or not.

Don't let people get in the way of you making some extra cash for school.  You're not there for the people, you're there to get paid.  If you make a few friends along the way that's fine, but that's not what you're there for.

    Hope this helps. :-)
