well we are going to NY the 2nd weekend of Sept. (2 couples) we have tickets to see Chicago on Broadway for a monday night showing.. Can anyone tell me what is the proper attire to wear to a Broadway show. It is at the Ambassador theater. Also can anyone tell me a decent, not too expensive restuarant where we can eat dinner that is close by the theater.. Not too sure exactly where it is located. Also will I be able to bring my camera in? or should I leave it at the room...

thanks much!!!

  1. You can dress up, but I wouldn't go "black-tie formal". At the least, business-casual. For the women, think s*x and the City-style evening wear. For the men, nice "non-work"  looking suit and tie.

For pre-theater, or after...I really like the Croton Reservoir Tavern on 40th Street, which is about 8-9 blocks from the Ambassador Theater. It's like a 1940's Saloon with classic American-style fare. Nice atmosphere. They have a good $31 pre-theater menu. On the regular menu the Grilled Salmon with Lobster Home Fries...yum!

Cameras generally are not allowed inside theaters, especially during performances.

    Have fun!

  2. Mangia e Brevia 52 and 9th ave, reasonable Italian food, Junior's on 44 st between 7th & 8th, just like the Junior's in Bklyn, known for their cheesecake. Cheap BBQ Dallas on 42 east of 8th Ave

Don't worry about what to wear to the show, just anything will do.

Can take the camera in but NO PICTURES

  3. You can wear whatever you want to a Broadway show. I don't think they have an attire requirement. However, I wouldn't dress sloppy. Wear something casual but still dressy. :) They may allow cameras in but you can't take pics during the performance.

  4. With regards to what to wear: think casual and neat. It need not be suit & tie, dress and heels, etc. A nice pair of pants and a polo shirt for men is fine and for women - you have many options because your wardrobes are bigger (skirt and blouse, jeans and blouse) etc.

As for food - you are smack dab in the middle of Times Square, so I recommend: Carmine's (Italian) on W. 44th Street between Broadway and 8th Avenue - it has huge platters of food at reasonable prices, Gallagher's Steak House on West 52nd Street, Red Eye Grill on 7th Avenue/W.56th Street.

Cameras can be brought into the theater (it's not illegal), but no photos are permitted; so leave it in the room.

  5. They really don't enforce a dress code but I don't think jeans are appropriate. Wear nice pants and a polo shirt or something along those lines. Girls can wear nice pants and a nice shirt. That's what you're supposed to wear it doesn't mean everybody follows this.

Not sure about an exact restaurant but there are restaurants everywhere you look in NYC so you'll be able to find one.

You can bring your camera in but I don't think you're not allowed to take pictures during the performance.

  6. No camera and dress "nice casual"
