Need advise on a dilemma?

I graduated 2 years ago and struggled to find a job. Everywhere I looked wanted at least 5yrs of experience. I moved to a different state and found a job willing to teach me. Unfortunately after a year, I am not enjoying the 'culture' of the town and really starting to get annoyed of some people I work with. I would LOVE to move back to my hometown but not sure if it's a good idea yet. I am only 1year into this job but not sure if I can handle it through 4 more. Should I suck it up and stay to get more experience? Should I just forget it and look for a job in my hometown?

  1. I just graduated college, and the problem is the same elsewhere, and with many of my friends.  They can't work where they want to.

Keep your eyes open in your home town to see if there is anything that you can do there, but in the meantime, stick it out at your current job, as long as it isn't stressing you out a lot or causing other problems.

Basically, an employer is going to look at a few things.  One of those things they are going to consider is if you are going to stick it out, or if the time they put into you is a waste.  If you leave this job that is training you after only a year, other employers might view their time spent training you as a waste, unless you can make a jump to another place that does the same thing you are doing now.

But, it's a good idea to build some connections, make the most out of your current situation, but have one foot out the door looking at the other area.

Also, is there a Temp Agency that you can get on with near your hometown so you can still gain training and experience, but also live in that town?  The problem with that is that it isn't as secure as what you have now, but it's an option.

If your current job is causing you actual distress, leave it, but if the problem is that you think you might be happier elsewhere, then wait there and train up to work that other place, and then leave when the opportunity arises.  But make the most out of what you have now, right?
