I know this has been asked a million times, but so many of the answers don't apply, so here goes...

I'm a 22-year-old student in a professional health program at UofT, and I'm moving out into the giant crazy world that is Toronto. What I really want is somewhere "self-contained"--I grew up in Port Credit and then spent 4 years in the close-knit Queen's community, both of which have the standards like Indigo/Chapters, Shoppers Drug Mart and McDonalds but have an abundance of indie cafes and--most importantly--excellent stores where you can curl up with a book or cram with a laptop. The only place I know of that's almost right is Bloor West Village...I've tried myhood.ca and whatnot to learn more about 'hoods, but I'd like more details than they offer! Basically, would much prefer Toronto proper (definitely no further than Islington Village, Kingston Rd, and Finch), TTC accessible, quiet (not Queen W), safe (not Parkdale), small (not the Annex) and quaint.

Suggestions?

  1. East York is everything that you are looking for and more...It covers the Danforth(greek town) all the stores you need...lots of cafe's (to curl up in) subways (Donlands, Chester, Broadview.Pape) highways ...Dr's office, walk in clinics, pharmacies...etc....try it ..you will love it. And most of all it is safe to walk the streets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. I live in Greektown - it rocks!

You're close to the Chester subway stop, there are MANYYY good restaurants, cafes, there's a SHopper at Pape, there's a BIG Loblaws - all within a 5 minute walk.

    (Logan and Danforth)

  3. Sounds to me like Bloor West Village is the best choice for you.  You're near High Park and you'll be on the subway line--it's a really nice hood but I wouldn't call it 100% safe at night.

I live in the Yonge/Eglinton area and absolutely love it.

It's safe, pretty quiet--it's a great neighbourhood.  Lot's of cafes, restaurants, movie theatres, grocery stores, boutiques--you basically just walk out your door and everything is in front of you.

  4. You might want to live nearby Bayview village. It is between Sheppard and Bayview. Inside the mall there is starbuck, lots of restaurant and Chapters. There is also Macdonald that is 4 traffic light which is located near Canadian Tire or Lesile subway station.
