I am trying to find an activity for my son who has ADHD. He is very withdrawn and does not have many friends. He is afraid to try new things and although he has played sports in the past (Football, soccer, baseball) its really not his thing. I have tried Hip Hop Dance, Karate but he just has NO INTEREST! I really need to find something for him to do that is constructive and that makes him feel good about himself - ANY SUGGESTIONS?

  1. If he like reading, maybe try contacting a library in the area to see if they have a children's book club.  If not, maybe you can talk to them about starting one!  If he is interested in art, contact your local YMCA, or maybe a ceramics shop in the area, and see what they have for kids groups.  Basically, he can do anything a normal 10 year old boy would do.  Find out what he is interested in, and find a way to make it work!  Also, some areas have a "big brother" program.  I think you would have to contact your local YMCA to find out more about it.  Basically what it is is a way for kids without brothers or sisters to have a "big brother" (for boys) or a "big sister" for girls.  It helps kids to open up more, and from what I've heard about the program, it really is a great program.  Hope this helps!

  2. Maybe instruments or art class. Maybe a swimming class too.

  3. Boy Scouts

  4. Band.

He can progress at his own rate.  The classes are short in length generally at the beginning.  He will get lots of individual attention, or small groups.  He can participate in it his whole life if he chooses.  One caution, though:  don't let him play the drums.  Choose something more like saxophone, which has a (relatively) easy learning curve (=less chance of becoming frustrated).

  5. Boy Scouts is very inclusive and a great group activity but if you find he loses interest quickly(as my own son does) consider a one-on-one based activity. Piano, Guitar, Foreign Language...we have found the one-on-one attention by a mentor helped our son engage in the activity and stick with it. What does he seem interested in-I would start there. Sometimes ADHD kids don't flourish in large group activities.

  6. duznt like sports or hiphop? interestin. . .

contructive duznt always mean a activity involving action or heavy movement. Try somethin that duznt need as much physical effort.

    not 100% sure :P
