Peavey Millenium with DiMarzio Ultra Jazz Pickup set

thought the two bodies matched up, but there are some differences. was thinking of putting a white pickguard from a milestone on a millenium:

i know, crappy skills. i just got paintbrush on this computer. anyhow, what do you think? would it look cool? or really bad?

i'd have to do one of several things.

1 these k***s don't line up, so i'd have to drill the guitar and move each one about 1/2-1inch over

2 or i can make a nice design and cut that whole piece where the k***s go. kinda something like this tortise pickguard

3 or get a luther to use it as a template

  1. not saying your idea looks bad, but i love quilted top finishes; so hiding a lot of one behind a pickguard wouldn't be my choice.

however, if that's not an issue with you, go for it. i think it's a pretty cool idea.

i just finished customizing a strat copy i had so i'm all for doing cool stuff to guitars/basses now.

one thing though: if you do drill new holes in the guitar for the k***s, have a professional do it. you definitely don't want to s***w up the body of the bass.

that being said, if you want to do it on your own, either go with option 2 and cut part of the pickguard. since the wiring is in a cavity in the back of the bass & not the front, you won't have gaping holes where the pots are. The other option is to drill holes in the pickguard where the k***s are supposed to be.it would be much safer than drilling through the guitar.

    have fun

  2. Hey Marlowe.. couldnt get any of your links to come up.. check the addresses on them.  I know which basses you have though.... nice stuff.. ive played Cirrus basses, 5 and 6 string for years now.  I have a couple of links that maybe could help you out if I can see a pic of your bass.

Edit:   Heres one link Marlowe... while they necessarilly dont have what your looking for already made, i see where they do custom pickguards.

And.. heres one more that might help ya out.

    www.bassemporium.com

Ive dealt with them in the past, and they are a very good company.

One last option might be to visit your local hobby shop.  During the winter months, I usually build a couple of scale model muscle cars.  In my visits to the local hobby shop, ive noticed that they sell various sizes of white plastic sheets, in different thickness.  This might be another option in designing your own custom pickguard.  Ive only seen white, but check with the store salesperson for different color options.   By the way.. great looking bass as it is... um... maybe just leave it the way it is???

  3. dont pick.

  4. This is not a hard job if you go about it the correct. Actually, I like that fender design and I did that often. Actually, it is much easier for you because you are sure that it will fit better.

Sometimes, when you try to make the entire piece, it doesn't always fit correctly.

i suggest to do it into 2 pieces. You are guaranteed to succeed at it.
