I have a 5 gallon tank with 3 gold fish in them.

Im thinking of putting them with Neon tetras Guppies, and maybe a pleco.

I want tropical and colorful.

  1. ok 3 goldfish need 70 gallons minimum for comet/common/carnival goldfish

or 40 gallons for fancy goldfish

    plecos grow over a foot

the only suitable tropical fish for a 5 gallon is a betta

    or a couple of guppies

tetras need a school of 6+ and a minimum tank size of 12 gallons for 6

goldfish are cold water and cant be kept with tropicals

  2. You cant put tropical fish with goldfish.

tropical fish need warm water. goldfish need colder water, and they produce alot of waste. Either way, one is going to die.

If you want tropical fish, then buy a whole new tank, and set it up.. and make it a tropical tank.

No matter what you think or say. you still cannot put goldfish with tropical fish.

  3. As fish man has mentioned, a 5 gallon is far too small for 1 goldfish let alone 3! Rehome or upgrade.

Goldfish canNOT be kept with tropical fish like tetras and plecos anyway.

Neon tetras need at least 10-15 gallons, they need to shoal in a group of 6 or more.

Guppies are really too active for a 5 gallon and again need 10-15 gallons or more.

Plecos are too large and messy for a 5 gallon. Even the smaller species such as the pitbull pleco and bristlenose pleco really need at least 15 gallons.

All that's really suited to the tiny confines of a fully cycled, filtered, heated 5 gallon is a betta. There are a few other options, a few, but they need very specialist care I do not feel you are quite up to yet.
