Need book suggestions on women accepting getting "old" and moving into a positive phase (the wise woman, etc)?

My boyfriend's mother is having a very, very hard time accepting that she's aged (it seemed to happen rather suddenly after menopause). She was attractive when she was younger and still is in my opinion but she can't get over it and it seems to be on her mind too much even though she has so many positive qualities - she's intelligent, open minded, funny, creative, caring. Are there any books you can recommend that I can get her that have to do with women aging and moving into a new positive phase, such as the "wise woman," "the healer," etc? She has a lot to offer and I would really like to see her happy with herself. Thanks!

  1. ah, sounds like a rough time.  well there is Judy Blume's  Smart Women... if you think she needs a book that will make her feel good try Fannie Flagg's Fried Green Tomatoes. it is great for all women

  2. If she has all those traits why on earth are you calling her unhappy?

  3. The Age of Miracles by Miranne Williamson.

  4. First books that came to mind are; The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood and The Joy Luck Club. They're about a variety of female experiences and usually told by the matriarch's point of view.

As for a biography, try Katharine Hepburn's. I forget the title, but she was an amazing woman, never let anything or anybody stop her.

  5. kamasutra.

  6. You can learn more about this subject by purchasing the book entitled "The Re-Education of the Female" by author Dante Moore Sr. due in stores July 15, 2008.  You can also check out http://www.thereeducation.com
