Question:

Need bridal shower ideas...

I''m my sister's maid of honor and my SIL has taken over my role of throwing a bridal shower. I'm livid but I don't want to ruin my sister's day and cause family drama so I'm just stepping aside and doing a more intimate shower for family and very close friends.

I want to have an English tea party (we live in the US but she is moving to London with her husband after the wedding). What are some ideas for things we can do? The bride is very classy and I want somethign that doesn't consist of wrapping her in toilet paper or filling out surveys. Also no massages, etc.

Thanks!

  2. dont waste money on those tacky paper streamers and wedding bells. i did one before and i used simple (but cheap, everything came from walmart, including the flowers) lacy cloth table cloths, flowers in glass ivy bowls with pretty ribbons around the bowls, i did use paper plates and plastic silver however but you can get them now that look like pretty place settings. i did finger foods ( assorted sandwiches, mixed fruit, vegetables and dips), punch (with and without champagne)and tea, and of course cake. since she is moving may i suggest a greenback shower (money and cards) or a lingerie shower (how fun). good luck and i hope i helped a little.

  3. Tea, cake and cucumber sandwiches? Or scones! Lol. Very British! Haha. How about a horse and carriage ride somewhere? Dress up, wear nice summer hats and get taken to somewhere, like a park or something. I dunno, its hard. I am going to have a think and come back to it :)

Edit - Have just found a website for murder mystery nights. VERY fun and you can have an 'English Tea' based one. Have someone in charge and you can buy them from ebay or anywhere! :) http://www.bigmontyproductions.co.uk/ here's the website. Quite different,  but people will enjoy it and talk about it!

Question - why the thumbs down? :S I don't understand!

Another edit - here is another website, from someone else's hen night http://amyreeve1981.blogspot.com/2005/12... Sounds like they had fun!

And another website, I know it is advertising Sydney but it can give you an idea!! http://www.weekendbreaks.com.au/exp1200-...

  4. Just have a tea! See if there is anywhere in your area which does a "high tea". If you'd rather stay in then you should be able to rent a nice tea service from a party place.

  5. Well have fun!

  6. If your SIL is throwing a bridal shower, don't call yours a "bridal shower" too.  It sounds hokey.  Try "Bridal High Tea" or "Bridal Luncheon" instead and this way the SIL won't get bent out of shape. Pick someplace bright and sunny - preferable outdoors on a veranda.  Nice linens and petite fours and small tea sandwiches. Have everyone wear sun hats and dress up a bit. Also, no presents! If they are invited to this they were probably also invited to the other shower and the Bachelorette Party - no double or triple dipping.  Check out the Food Network for recipes on the food and drinks.  And relax and enjoy....I'm sure your sister will appreciate everything you are doing for her!
