Question:

Need camera selecting advice, I want low ISO but I have unsteady hands?

I've been trying to select a camera all night, and I've been everywhere from Cnet to Digital Camera review and more, from Fujifilm to Kodac to Cannon. I absolutely detest noise, so I suppose I have to use a low ISO like 80, BUT sometimes I have shaky hands and the picture blurrs. I'm also looking for a camera with a wider lens because most of my pictures will be taken in close range, and a decent macro feature as well. Is there some stablization out there that would help me take the low ISO I desire and still leave me with a blurr-less picture?

  1. get a canon digital elph with image stabilization, i.e. sd1100 is.  i absolutely love my canon...great quality pictures & the best flash.

check out the cameras here: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/contro...

  2. If you buy a camera that has a viewfinder you can use the time honored method of placing the camera up to your eye, holding it with both hands ... your cheek will help steady the camera.

If you get one that only has an LCD and have to hold it at arm's length, then you will have to buy one that has IS or camera movement will be an issue when shooting at low ISO's (100 is usually the lowest), without flash and in low light.

Here is where you can do your research for such cameras.

  3. Unfortunately wanting only a compact (point and shoot) camera only already rules out any dSLR.

Canon 5D can go up to ISO 3,200 and it's pretty clear, like this:

Here is one with higher contrast

    This is at ISO 100

    another one

(click on ALL SIZES to see a larger version of any of these)

I am sorry I am not being that helpful about this. Least expensive dSLR (for example, Nikon 40D) doesn't go any lower than ISO 200, I think. In any case, because they have larger sensor than a compact camera, it's much less "noisy" than one.

  4. Olympus  :  Stylus 790 SW

    $ 300.00us

its water proof, shock proof, no sound, etc.

  5. There are some "picture stabilization" features that some cameras have (all but the lowest end of Sony ones do) that might help some.  Nothing, however, is a subsitute for having a tripod.  You can get some small "table top" tripods that are very light weight an easy to carry.

  6. Hi,

I did a lot of research and found Canon PowerShot SD870 is to be the best camera for the money.

This camera is totally awesome! Takes very high quality pictures at a very fast speed. I highly recommend it for its small size, image stabilizer and long life rechargeable battery.

From the first day I received it. I just love it. Great shots up close and far away. Moreover, this is a very handy, tiny and light camera that you can carry in your pocket without feeling it.

The screen is huge and the colors are really good.

Menus and settings are very easy and clear. Some tips appear on the screen when you are using different modes, it is very helpful.

    Great camera!!!
