I have Toyota Celica 2002, i have had some scratches/swirls on my hood, so i washed it and then tried some scratch repair stuff..two types Scratch X and Magic Paint Wax (Turtle Wax), This did not work at all. So then I got some regular wax (Turtle Wax) to see if that would fix it....nope...Then i got a clay bar kit and tried that on the hood and all it did was make the hood smooth with white hazy waxy look. Now all the scratches are filled in with wax and it looks so horrible! Please help me find a solution other than getting it repainted. I have pictures of the hood in my profile..Thank You

  1. if you don't have a clear coat, and the scratches aren't thru to the primer

use Dupont rubbing compound, and an old tshirt, followed by polishing compound, and a different tshirt, and then wax...

If it's clear coated all you will do is polish the clear coat...

If the scratches go through to the primer, all you really can do is repaint....

  2. Wrong. You do have clear coat. You improperly used the clay bar, from what you're telling me you added too much pressure. By adding too much pressure when claying creates marring. This is because claying, although it cleans, is still an abrasive. May I ask if you polished by hand or machine, and if by machine what type? (rotary or random orbital) The products I would use to take the marring/swirls out will be Menzerna Super Intensive Polish with a yellow pad. Then followed by Menzerna PO106FA with a either a orange pad or white bad, depending on the paint's condition then. And FYI in the future, Clay with little to no pressure using LOTS of lube and Wax pretty much does nothing but give it depth and shine, may cover some very small swirls if any.

  3. You can try rubbing compound, but if these scratches are down to the primer or bare metal, you're wasting your time and money. Just get it painted .

  4. The cracks you see are through the clear coat and down to the base coat. Nothing will take them out besides being sanded down and repainted. Any thing else you do is wasting your time.
