  1. Well it depends on your decide field of study and where you live OR if you are willing to travel. The government always offers very exclusive internships in Washington DC or NYC. They are usually with the FBI or the CIA.

If you are looking into medicine many hospitals offer special programs and internships that would look great on a resume.

Foundations such as Make A Wish offer all sorts of internships and volunteer opportunities in many areas around the US.

Also, foundations that deal with activism and human rights are great. What about PETA or Save Darfur, there are also one's that operate on a smaller basis such as Invisible Children but would look great on a resume.

There are also abroad positions that you can do for 2-12 weeks. You can volunteer anywhere in teh world reall doing great projects involving human rights, medicine and the environment. Colleges LOVE that sort of thing. For that try something like Cross Cultural Solutions or IFRE.org.

What's your major, that would eally help narrow it down!

  2. try working at a community hospital, a library or a pet shelter

but work consistantly so that colleges see that you're dedicated and that you can handle it
