Can some kind hearts let me know the actual savings potential for a indian family of 2 adults + 1 kid by providing split up cost for rent, groceries, monthly expenses for new camry/ accord car including insurance, DEWA, Telephone & internet, other hidden charges, etc.

Also is there any hidden charges or tax to be paid for apartment apart from house rents. My office is going to be somewhere near Manhattan building; is it advisable to stay in alghusais or nahda or sharjah for this office location and also state the rent considering this location.

Thanks and regards,

  1. 7,000 - Rent estimate

3,500 - Car (accord/camry) including gas and insurance

    600 - DEWA

    250 - Internet / Phone

    2,000 - Food / Groceries

Other charges - health insurance, school, school bus

All these are approximations and may vary depending on your personal expectations.

Dunno where the Manhattan building is, will leave someone else to answer that... hope its not in NY :-)

  2. Dear,

please do not take my answer as an offense, okay?

How on earth is anybody else than you to find out how much you will save? Nobody knows how much your rent will be. Nobody knows how much you'll spend on groceries or anything else. Does anybody knows how old your child is (nursery/school charges)?

I can let you know that the flat rate for the intenet will be Dhs 250 monthly, but how I am suppose to know your telephone?

In case you share a place with other people the rent should incloud all utilities and there are no hidden charges or any tax.

There is no tax on anything (just a few exempetions).

To make a long story short. As an Indian, living in shared accomodation, you'll be able to make it. But as said before, nobody will be able to tell you how much you'll save. That is something you have to figure out by yourself.

    Take care.

  3. its difficult to say as everyone has a different lifestyle but generally speaking u shoudl be able to save money .  im out of touch with the cost of a new camry/accord but they are fairly cheap in the uae and u can pay monthly. however unless u have a uae driving licence or a british passport and british licence u will not be able to drive there till u have passed a test and that is long and frustrating not to mention expensive. education, housing and medical are the most expensive things so they are covered.  groceries, personally i think 2000 a bit high but its a few years sinc ei lived there so i dont know how prices have risen, i kept 5 kids and 2 adults on that with a mixed western/arabic grocery shop.    imported goods are expensive, however basics like rice pasta fruit veg and locally produced goods are cheap so if for example ur want all western branded foods yr budget will be higher than if ur just  used to a basic diet.   also depends how often/cheaply u want to eat out, there are many cheap and good indian, iranian arabic restaurants where u can eat for a few pounds, right up to 5* hotels which are obvoiusly going to take a large chunk out of yr budget so really how much u save is up to u.  with regard to hidden charges, ther ewill be a fee to the agency for  taking the tenancy which is usually about 5% of the rental but be sure to negotiate. utilities tel and internet im too out of touch to help im afraid.   good luck with yr move.

  4. estimated expensesas follows

    rent 7000, water electricity 500, car 2000, grocery 2000,

school  apart from fees 400, telephone 500, net 250,

so according to me u can save 50 % of ur salary if u r not very extravagant or at least 30 %
