Need computer buying tips?

So my hard drive on my laptop crashed recently, so I have a choice.

I either A) Buy a new HDD for my laptop. This should only be about $70-80, but I may find out later that the hard drive wasn't the only problem with my laptop. I also need to know what to look for in a laptop. Or, B) I buy a new laptop, or C) buy a new desktop.

So, I need your opinions on which I should do. I only move around a bit, so the portability of the laptop isn't essential, but it is a benefit. For a price range of about <$800, what would you recommend as a good laptop or desktop? I play games and work with graphics a lot, so a good graphics card is a must.

  1. You get a harddriver at that price..May be a 40GB or 80GB...Okay if you are looking for a computer with graphics card. Then go for a Desktop cos if you want a laptop with graphics card it might cost you more bucks.... try configuring one on www.dell.com to know what fits your requirements....

  2. If you choose to buy new and portability is not a big issue then buy a desktop. You get more for your money and a desk top lends itself better to upgrading.
