Need exercises to make actor compassionate!?

Just need a couple of exercises to help my actor become compassionate, don't necessarily have to work.

Take him/her down to do volunteer work at an orphanage/shelter or community project. Ask the actor to observe the body and facial expressions of his/her fellow volunteers and then try to replicate them on stage/screen. A lot of emotion is embedded into our body and voice.
