Need for Speed: Most Wanted confirmed for Wii U on 2013
Electronic Arts (EA) has confirmed that the remake of 2005 Need for Speed: Most Wanted will be arriving on Nintendo’s next-generation console in 2013.
The multiple-platform open-world car racing video game has already hit the shelves in the North American region for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Vita, Android and iOS.
Developed by Criterion Games instead of EA Black Box studio, who developed the original Need for Speed: Most Wanted game, the 19th instalment promises to be a real big hit.
Known more for its Burnout franchise, Criterion Games has already its capability of handling the Need for Speed brand in the past, developing the critically acclaimed Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2.
The latest title in the franchise was announced at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) earlier this year, though the game was only believed to be coming out for the Sony and Microsoft current-generation as well as portable consoles, along with the smartphones.
However, the Nintendo fans were finally given a reason to rejoice after an EA representative confirmed during an interview with Polygon that the fast-paced action would indeed be coming out for Wii U sometime next year.
"We are very excited to deliver Need for Speed: Most Wanted on more platforms and to more gamers," said the EA representative. "Starting Oct. 30, Most Wanted will be available on X360, PS3, PS Vita, Android and iOS. Then in 2013, Nintendo fans will be able
to experience what it means to be Most Wanted amongst their friends on the Wii U."
The Need for Speed franchise has been struggling to maintain its reputation of being the best in the genre over the years, but it seems that the car racing brand is all set to make its way to the top with the latest instalment.
There is a common misconception that the latest Need for Speed: Most Wanted game is simply a high-definition (HD) remake of its original counterpart.
The gameplay videos make it evident that Criterion Games has made a number of notable modifications to the gameplay and design of the game, while introducing several new features.
Nintendo Wii U will surely benefit from the arrival of Need for Speed: Most Wanted next year.
