I am a teacher working one-on-one with an ESL student. I am teaching him English. He speaks Spanish. I have no ESL books or any materials to work with. He speaks very little English and I only know how to ask for a lemonade in Spanish. I was wondering if anyone has any lesson plans, fun activities, or websites for free lesson plans. He is 18 but at a 6th grade academic level. Any suggestions are welcome.

  1. I like to play ESL games with the students. It makes class fun and the best way to help someone learn a language is to motivate them to speak and think for themselves, rather than all the repetition.  Most games can be adapted for a single student.  Here are links to some of my favorites:

  2. You'll need to plan activies that are not only fun, but functional as well.  I worked with a Russian ESOL student last year.

This website offers a lot of info and focuses on the Spanish language -

Also, if you work for a school district or are employed by one, they have the responsiblilty to supply you with ESL books.  But theres never any promise when those will come in...

If you want to search on your own for more info, try searching not only ESL, but ESOL as well.
