She's ready for big kid things...most of the ten year olds I know are into music and movies but she can't hear so any ideas would be great.

  1. Ooh, good question!

Does she like watching movies with the subtitles on?  That might be a good idea.  Otherwise, how about books?  10 is about the right age for a series like the Babysitter's Club, Sweet Valley Twins, etc.  Maybe you could get her an inexpensive digital camera (if she has access to a computer)?  You could also find some fun craft project ideas -- maybe she'd like to scrapbook, or make T-shirts, or decorate picture frames, or something like that.  Visit a craft store and I'm sure you'll see tons of ideas!

  2. What about a diary or an art set. My oldest is 9.5 and loves them. I hate giving gift cards myself but she LOVES them because she can get what she wants or has been wanting that I wont buy LOL

And like everyone else said all movies come with subtitles now days.

  3. A gift card to Limited Too or Abercrombie Kids. My ten year old loves that and she loves money.

Is this ten year old completely deaf or partially? I'm mostly deaf but I love my ipod because I can turn it up so loud. If she is partially deaf that would actually be a good gift. If she is completely deaf, a gift card to Borders would be great.

  4. Books, puzzles, craft kits...anything to stimulate the mind.

  5. A musical instrument is meant to be good because they feel the vibrations and its better than you think.

  6. Well, when I was ten I was really big into books. They still don't require any sound last I checked unless they are coming via headphones. But you don't want those. I recommend the very quite but fun, hardbound variety.

    What does she enjoy?

I would recommend (on the nerdier side) books on world mythology (always full of magic, weird creatures, juicy stories) or mummies, or quirky science books. I don't know what is popular with kids today and I'm not that old! :P But I think something that will spark her imagination and creativity is best.

Also, this may be a leap. I found this at Gallaudet press.

Its a school for the deaf. Might be an interesting book, maybe for another year though.

  7. movies could still work because of subtitles/closed captioning...

    maybe books

10 is that tricky age where they're usually too old for toys, but not old enough for makeup and clothes... maybe a gift certificate to a store like "Claires" or something that's got fun stuff for tweens...

  8. make up!

or like a nail kit..paint your nails and stuff

when i was ten i lovedd that stuff
