I need advice on a funky, modern up do. Any suggestions? I really am trying to avoid those tight curls that sit on top of the head.

thanks

  1. Stop looking at wedding magazines or websites.  They seem to be filled with "wedding hair".  You know, updo with curls or low bun to the side.  I don't know about you, but I find them boring and overdone.

Look through fashion mags.  I'm sure Vogue would have some great ideas.  Also, if looking at wedding sites, like the Knot, check out the hairstyles of those modeling designer gowns.  Any couture designer will have models with hair that's unlike the normal "wedding hair".

Hope you find what you like.  I'm in the same situation.  I did the updo with curls for my prom, which was 15 years ago.  I want to be outside the norm, yet beautiful.

  3. Got to a local hair salon and ask someone for a book of that kind of stuff.

  4. I would spend some time looking at wedding magazines and websites, like www.theknot.com.  they have tons of ideas.  Once you have a few choices, speak to your hair stylist and they'll be able to help pick one that suits you and your wedding style.

  5. There are lots of ideas on websites - check out theknot.com or brides.com.

One idea that I liked, (but didn't work very well for me what with the type of wedding I was having and my dress) was a very simple and elegant pulled back look with some really pretty pins.  I've also seen flowers.  I really tend to like it on the brides who opt not to wear a veil.  Just a nice clean look.  You could easily practice something like this yourself and save money on a hairdresser, too!
